Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Brita Water Pitcher Replacement Filter

Customer Review: Great taste, but don't expect it to purify and sterilize water
Summary: 5 Stars

Most others have written a lot about Brita. The most vital thing about it is it removes enough chlorine to make the water smell and taste better. It also removes many other harmful contaminants, but not enough to make it safe for human consumption, although it does a close job to it. If your water isn't safe to drink from the tap, Brita will not make it safe.

It is not sophisticated enough to remove contaminants down to undetectable or EPA safe levels. This has been studied in many third party analysis of in-home water filters.

Customer Review: QA problem (see picture), otherwise good product
Summary: 4 Stars

I have been using these for about 6 years now. The water tastes slightly better through this filter than tap water. About 95% of all liquid I drink is water, so this slight difference is important to me. To Brita, I wish you improve your QA process. About 1 in 4 filters has black stuff (charcoal?) coming out of it. This occurs both on the top and the bottom of the filter. I am very OCD, so I follow the directions exactly, which means that it's probably not my fault. I uploaded a picture for everyone to see (click on "see all customer images" at the top of the page). Still, even with this issue, I recommend this product because the filters are very cheap when bought in bulk and it does work, i.e. the water tastes better. For that 1 in 4 product with the defect, it can be annoying waiting for the charcoal to sink to the bottom every time I pour a glass of water. Also, I have to constantly remind myself that there's stuff at the bottom of the glass so that I won't accidentally swallow it. Thus, -1 star.

Customer Review: good product, but too expensive at $19.17 for 3 filters
Summary: 1 Stars

I thought this contained 10 filters. This impression was from others' reviews (e.g. a review on Feb 10 by Corvallis, OR mentions this is 10-pack) as well as the package image that showed 10 filters (this image is now nonexistent but was there about a week ago when I ordered it). At Target, you can get 6 filters for $27. I love this product, but will definitely buy somewhere else next time.

Customer Review: not filtering correctly
Summary: 2 Stars

I've bought these filters for years, but the last batch (bought on amazon) are no good -- a lot of carbon particles in the bottom of the pitcher each time I refill it, and the water runs through much too fast. No appreciable difference in taste when compared with regular tap water. I am hoping this is just a bad batch and they haven't changed suppliers/factories/manufacturing standards.

Customer Review: save money, drink better..and more
Summary: 5 Stars

I used to purchase drinking water from walmart. We drink a lot of water and some $40-$50 was spent a month for this luxury.
But the taste of tap water is so yukky that I wouldnt touch it with my lips. Boiling it didnt make a difference.

Then came Brita. I found the taste very close to that of water bottles.
One filter gives very good tasting water for one month. There after the taste gradually changes. It can be stretched for 10 more days.

Fortunately in this country you dont have to go to war to get good quality water, just turn the tap ON.
Spending money on water bottles
1) is a waste of your hard earned money,
2) waste of gas used in transporting it from coast to coast, ( plus the pollution )

Buy these ...feel good drinking tasty water...feel good that you are saving money and environment.
